  1. A deacon nominee shall fill the Scriptural qualifications as found in Acts 6:3-8 and 1 Timothy 3:8-13.  In essence, these two passages state that a deacon is to be a man of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost, full of wisdom, full of faith, a business man, grave, not double tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre, holding faith in a pure conscience, proved, the husband of one wife. The wife of a deacon must also be grave, not a slanderer, sober, faithful to all things.
  2. A deacon nominee shall be a tither.
  3. A deacon nominee shall be and have been loyal to the church program and faithful in attendance.  Attendance requirements shall be left to the discretion of the Deacon Nominating Committee.
  4. The deacon nominee must have been a Christian at least 5 years, an active member of the Ooltewah Baptist Church for at least 2 years and be at least 25 years of age.  All these qualifications must be met by the date the deacon would begin serving.

Church members shall be given the qualifications of deaconship as approved by the Ooltewah Baptist Church.  Men who are presently serving as deacons shall be identified and declared ineligible for nomination.  (Jack Woods, Marvin Kirkpatrick, Patrick Woodard, Chuck Margraves, Scott Harrington, Doug Cawood, David Kilgore and Frank Kennedy.)'

After prayerfully reviewing the qualifications for deacon, church members shall be instructed to submit the names of men they feel led of God to nominate.  Each church member can nominate up to the number required that year to fill the Deacon Council.  All nomination forms must be signed by the church member making the nomination.  A potential candidate must receive at least three (3) nominations from members of the church to be considered in the process.  Potential candidates cannot be nominated by themselves nor immediate family members.
